Legend has it that the christian messiah was sold out for thirty pieces of silver. How much is that worth in circa-2009 US dollars?

And how much barbecue sauce would that buy? >:3

As of Jun 5th, Silver closed at $15.39/oz.

Figure that for a coin, an ounce of metal is used for the actual coin, due to the relative difficulty in acquisition.

Judas sold Jesus out for about ~$461.70.

You can buy a 19oz bottle of Jack Daniels BBQ Sauce for $4.00.

that is 115 bottles of BBQ sauce and change. If you bought by the ounce, Jesus == 2193.075 oz of BBQ Sauce.

  See though that's the thing. The proven silver reserve should have been different in 33 anno domini (or whatevs). How many loaves of bread could you buy with thirty pieces of silver at that time? Probably not $460 worth.
